You are invited to an opening of Notjustnat Exhibition on 27 Nov, 2010. The exhibition is actually starts on Wed. 17 November because Mr Notjustnat and I will be in Sydney straight after I set up the exhibition, and not coming back until next week. So the official opening will have to be deferred until the weekend after. I am so happy that my friend and teacher Tricia McGaughey agreed to open the exhibition for us. Tricia was the main reason I got into book binding. Tricia is now the President of Basketmakers of Victoria where I'm a member. So if you are in town on Saturday Nov. 27th. you are very welcome to the opening.
Below are some photos of the exhibits I took this morning. I will be taking more photos after I set up on Wednesday.
Boro coasters made from Boro cloth. The solid blue fabric is very torn and I had a pleasure of mending it. I used 4 different fabrics for these coasters. By placing each fabric in a different position it makes it more interesting.
The mini Kimono was made with a group of friends as part of Japanese challenge. I cut up a cotton Kimono and gave each one a piece to make whatever they want with it. The only rule was to make something Japanese. I made this reversible mini Kimono using Sashiko stitching on one side and red ties on the other side.
This is how it looks on the reverse side of mini Kimono. I will be displaying everything you see in a group inside the display cabinet. I did a test run yesterday and I'm happy with how it looks.
You might remember this pincushion in a tub I blogged about before. Don't you just love my scissors? They are so unbelievably sharp and comfortable to use. The little fob is made from a kurrajong pod and filled with raw wool to keep the needle from rusting.
It has been a busy time organizing the exhibition. I am really enjoying it though. In my last job in Abu Dhabi I was working as part of a team organizing conferences. We did at least 4 conferences a year. It was so much fun and we got to stay in the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai in one of our conferences. How cool was that?
The easy part of this exhibition is that I have been making stuff regardless of the exhibition. Most of the of work in the exhibition is mine, so you will be seeing more photos here in the next few posts.

Your coasters ard mini kimono are so beautiful. There is something about blue that makes everthing look so smart. Have a great time with your exhibition.

I was hoping to come along to the opening after my art catch up day with Jacky was changed but am working now. Finish work at 3 though so might be able to come along afterwards? Would love to see more of your work up close. Hope you are having a wonderful time in Sydney. Loved the photo's you shared of your granddaughter at Ziguzagu and your eco dyeing is wonderful.
