I intend to use only fabric from my stash. I think I might have enough background fabric, but if not I will use different fabric for that. I don't think they were too fussy about what fabric they used during the Civil War in 1860.
To motivate myself and to get started with this quilt, I have got a book out from the library on Women and Civil War by Louise Chipley Slavicek 2009. It was fascinating to read that Mary Edwards Walker was the first woman to wear trousers during the Civil War in 1860. I hope that somewhere in this book there will be something about quilts. I will keep you posted if I come across it.
I just want to show you this beautiful old tin I am using to keep all the applique pieces together. It is in keeping with the period. I hope you enjoy this post with a bit of history. I hope to learn more about the Civil War by the time I finish this quilt.

Hugs - Lurline♥
I really love Civil War fabrics. I am working on saving a stash to make a Bonnie Blue quilt. You are braver then me, as I don't do the applique ;-)
Good Start No I don't think the Ladies of the Civil War would have bought all the background material at one time. I'm sure they would have used what was at hand (in the stash) as much as possiable.
Are you going to needle turn or blanket stich?
I look forward to seeing it progress.
Terry
Very nice, Natima..... I am eagerly following your progress. Love your new banner, by the way!
HUGS!
This is a beautiful block and the quilt is going to be so special! I will look forward to your blocks.

That will be a beautiful quilt! I like Civil War fabric too, and plan to make a Civil War quilt, but it will have to be pieced since I don't applique well! The book you are reading sounds interesting, too. It was an overwhelming time in history. Louise
I love the pattern. I too am not an applique girl. I am hoping my mom teaches me one day but right now I have many many quilt tops to quilt and pieced patterns cut. This looks like it will take a lot of time and work and will make a most beautiful quilt!
Hi Natima,
Can you tell me if I can get the pattern of that quilt in the US? I think I would like to start that quilt!!!
And what applique method are you using for this quilt?
Hello Nat, I love the quilts from the Civil War period...looking forward to watching your progress...hugs lyn
