The roses are from our own garden. There aren't many left due to dry and hot weather we had lately. This weekend though we are blessed with plenty of rain!
Back to my hearts. If you remembered I posted about this heart once before when I took part in Friday Night Sewing Party. On one of my visits to an op-shop (thrift shop) I picked up vintage cushions for only $0.50 each. I've already got the idea that I would look for items with embroidery on them to make more hearts. These cushions are just what I wanted. They are made from a mix of linen and cotton. The embroidery looks faded and used, but it does not matter. I fuzzy cut around the embroidery and got six hearts out of one cushion. I used every bit of it including the two covered buttons from the back.
Here are my six beautiful hearts. I only completed two so far. After it was stuffed I put handmade cord around the seam from the top, all around and ended up with a loop for hanging. I'm so very pleased with my hearts. Have you noticed that the embroidery is in a different position on each heart? I think it makes them more interesting. I can see a vintage tree next Christmas...!
I've got a little bit left to make a fob for my scissors. If you would like a copy of the heart pattern just leave me a comment and I will be happy to send it to you. Make sure to leave your email address.
Enjoy the rest of your Valentine's Day. I will go and get some sewing done before the weekend is over.

Well aren't those hearts gorgeous!!!!!!
What a clever girl you are... I love the idea of using old embroidery to make them.
I suppose you could use doilies too!

As you know, I love your hearts but these are really special. I love the scissorfob too. I must start looking out for some old embroidery like that.

Your roses look wonderful. How sweet of hubby to do that for you. I love the hearts. What a great idea.
Such pretty, skinny hearts, sounds like you had a lovely day. My Mum's been making hearts half stuffed with lavender and flaxseeds, as little fragrant heart hotpacks.
Your DH is great!! And I love your little hearts!!
Have a lovely Valentine's day together!!

How clever of you to turn something old into something so beautiful. Wonderful way to recycle.
I've been admiring your heart for a while! I'd love to have the pattern. ;) I'm not ordinarily a visitor to thrift shops but I had no idea I could find old linens there -- I've only seen them in antique sales and stores before now. I love hand embroidery -- what great use of old work!
:) Linda
What a great idea to find embroidered things to make the hearts from. I might have some old embroidered damaged pieces I can use.
What a great idea to reuse the cushions! The hearts look gorgeous! I wish there were thrift shops here too, but it doesn't excist. I used to go to thrift shops in Norway and there was always something interesting.
What a lovely valentines post. I adore your hearts and the fact that they are recycled from cushions is even better, now why can't I find neat stuff like that?
Hope you had a good Valentine's Day -- your hearts are to die for. I love the French look...
Those hearts are lovely. What a good idea to look for an embroidered pillow. I think the fact that it's a little aged makes them more charming. And the cord is a nice touch. I love the heart that you made for me.
How sweet: roses and coffee. Ahhhh.
Karen
What a great idea! You really found the perfect cushion for your project. I think your hearts are wonderful!
Your purple hearts are very sweet. I love them!
